Tree story
The jacaranda, while not a native species, is a popular site in the towns and cities of Cádiz province, producing a spectacular display of purple flowers during the spring months.
This particular jacaranda sits in the centre of one of the most emblematic squares in the city. The square dates back to the 19th century and was originally the site of the garden of the convent of Saint Francis. The tree is accompanied by an impressive selection of other much older species that make up the central 'garden' of the plaza. A plaza surrounded by impressive 18th and 19th century architecture, including the city's museum.
